Eric Hesch has dealt with the effects of minor to severe acid reflux over the course of his medical career. It has not been a very pretty picture. This condition can severely restrict what a person can eat without experiencing the negative side effects of acid reflux. There are some things that can be done to reduce this condition, but it can be hard to get rid of without changing the types of food that a person eats. This can be harder for some than others.

Acid reflux is caused by the acid in the stomach affecting the esophagus. This can result from the valve that opens to allow food into the stomach not closing all the way or being open for too long at a time. The acid causes a burning sensation in the esophagus. Certain foods, or lying down after a large meal can result in a person experiencing acid reflux. Acidic foods and drinks, smoking, or snacking before bedtime are other factors that can result in problems with acid reflux.

Eric Hesch knows that the symptoms of acid reflux can vary based on the severity of the condition. Mild acid efflux can result in heartburn, or even mild regurgitation. More severe cases of acid reflux have been known to result in bloating, nausea, and even blood in vomit or stool. A person should make sure that the severity of their case is diagnosed, as more problems can result from lack of treatment. This is definitely a situation no one wants.
